For us to live a full and enjoyable life, we must know how to improve ourselves. This is a very important concept we need to undertake for us to be effective in the life we are living in. A person who does not understand the importance of this concept cannot achieve anything worthwhile while living in this world. He will always be blaming the circumstances and problems surrounding him. One thing we must know is that we are masters of our own lives. The following are the techniques we can apply to improve ourselves: -

 Do self-examination regularly

This exercise of self-examination is very essential in our lives. Those who fail to perform this exercise fail to live their lives to the fullest. This is simply having time when we are alone and reflecting upon our life. What we have done, spoken and other issues. After reflecting, we will be able to understand where we acted wrongly. This exercise also helps us to know the attitudes and bad behaviour we need to change in our lives. We cannot change unless we know where we need to change. When we see some people doing wrong and they are not changing, we should not blame them. It is because they do not have time for self-examination. This exercise should be done day by day for us to become better everyday.

 Read good books

For our lives to improve, we need to be reading regularly. We should not read everything we meet along the way. We should only read those books which are beneficial to us. If we read some books, we will not improve; we shall become worse than we are. Be selective when reading. Books do contain a lot of information on how we can improve ourselves and making our lives become better. I am the way I am because of the good books I have been reading since I realised that books do contain a lot of information which can change my life. The problem that we usually have in our society is that many people are too lazy to read even a single page of a book. I would like to encourage you to just take one book which you believe has what it takes for your life to change and start reading it. The more you will read and understand the information in it, the more you will look for other books so that you will always be reading.

Change our thinking

We should change our thinking for our life to change. One person said that once we change our thoughts, we change the entire man. We cannot improve ourselves if we are not changing our thoughts. We cannot improve ourselves if we are living as victims and not victors, if we are living a desperate life instead of living a life full of abundance. Thought do play a great role in changing our inner man. When we change our inner man, our outer man changes also. We need to start seeing ourselves as people who are confident, courageous, fearless  and able and above all live a positive life. Never allow the negative thoughts to dominate your mind for you cannot be able to change yourself when you are thinking negatively. Always be seeing the positive side of your life. 

Associate with people you want to be like

For us to improve ourselves, we should always associate with people we want to be like. If we associate with people we don’t want to be like, they will kill our initiative of improving ourselves and make us remain the way we are or make us to be worse. We must be very careful when selecting people to be associating with. Bad company corrupts good morals. If we want to be better that we are today, we have to avoid any bad company that may lead us astray. Many people get lost because of their associates.

 Learn from your past mistakes

We should learn from our past mistakes if we want to improve ourselves. Every time we do a mistake, we should sit down and ask ourselves, what lesson can I learn from this mistake? If we do this exercise, our lives will always be improving because nothing happens by mistake in this world. All that happens is for us to learn and grow. What lessons have we been learning from the mistakes we usually make day by day. We should not ignore those lessons for they are the ones that are going to make us better every day.

 Let us learn to be improving ourselves and we will always be living a good and prosperous life.

I consider myself a home décor pro but I need to improve on certain things. So my top 10 home improvement New Year’s resolutions mainly revolve around the things that I need to work on to improve the look of my home.

My living room has marble flooring. I have to admit it; I cannot keep it clean as I do not have the time to scrub and wipe daily. So I am planning to throw a big rug in my living room in 2010. I don’t have a problem with vacuuming twice or even thrice in a week.

Home Improvement New Year’s Resolution for 2010 # 2: An empty kitchen sink

I hate the sight of dirty dishes in the sink. Yet I fail to wash them regularly. Sometimes the pile grows beyond imagination. So, this year I am going to wash anything I eat or drink in, right there and then. I hope I can make my hubby do so too.

Home Improvement New Year’s Resolution for 2010 # 3: Making a photo display

Time for another confession: we have hundred of photographs from vacations and outings that are rarely seen, never printed and lie hidden somewhere between the never-organized folders of my hubby’s laptop. This year I’ll make it a point to manage all of them and to print some of them. I’ll make a cute, romantic photo collage for our bedroom.

I’ll replace the bad bulbs with energy savers and I’ll add at least two light fixtures in my home; one in the bedroom and the other in the kitchen.

Home Improvement New Year’s Resolution for 2010 # 9: Installing a swing set

We do not have kids but adults can also enjoy the swing sets. I’ll order a comfortable swing set on which I’ll lie and read in the lazy afternoons.

Home Improvement New Year’s Resolution for 2010 # 10: Allowing more light and air in the bathroom

My home has only one bathroom, which is tight, dark, and cramped. Maybe in the mid or late 2010, I’ll get its wall replaced with a big window to allow more sun and air. This is my only new year’s home improvement resolution that might cost us dearly. That is why it is on no. 10. This will happen only if I get a lot of money some way (that right now I don’t know of).
